Sometimes, it feels like the pain we are going through won’t end or that it is pointless. But there really is a season for everything. Our pain, no matter how much it hurts, will end. And while it is significant to us, it is just a fleeting knowledge to those around us. It doesn’t mean they don’t care, and it doesn’t negate your pain, they just haven’t experienced it.
But what if there was a point? What if the no is a not yet, or the heartbreak is saving you later down the road? We all have our strengths, we all have our weaknesses, but we don’t all know what those are until we are tested. And a lot of times, the people we love the most are the ones who selfishly push our strengths to the side to make themselves feel better. It is true, you can’t love someone into loving you. You can’t make them treat you how you deserve.
Would you give up a house that was second best to the house sitting right next to it- one that is more affordable? Think about it. When you focus on the second best, more expensive house, you’re missing out on the better more affordable one. The same is true for settling for the life that is pushing you down. You want the life that you can live to the fullest, I promise. Zelda Fitzgerald was a great author, but her husband ended up being the more well known, she loved him and allowed herself to be overshadowed. She decided mediocre was fine with her and she had a tumultuous marriage and ended up living in a mental institution. Mary Shelley, amazing author, arguably better than her husband, he’s not well known though, but he was well loved. So, well-loved, legend says she kept his heart with her. I don’t know how true it is, but the lesson is there. He may have been the better writer and was overshadowed by mediocrity, but his gamble on love was a resounding success.
